I was enjoying a nice stroll one day and decided to visit the Intercultural Center. I had no previous plans of visiting the center nor did I have an agenda for what I’d do when there. Something on the door of the center caught my eye, which piqued my interest about the entire office. As I entered, I was greeted by Alicia and was struck by her friendliness and genuine interest in me.
As someone who is usually shy, I don’t tend to say much or come across as particularly warm when I first meet someone. However I felt instantly welcomed and felt completely comfortable with her. She asked me questions ranging from my upbringing to my aspirations and general other questions. In her attentiveness she was able to give me resources that would be beneficial to my pursuits and interests, most of which I had no clue were around. I was also struck by her beauty, youthfulness, yet mature professionalism. I was stunned that someone so young could be working at such a high level of responsibility.
I automatically assumed that she must be no more than 5 years my senior, which I later found out was not the case! In later months I was offered work at the Intercultural Center where I first met Alicia, and was delighted to have her as my supervisor. Over the years Alicia and I developed a bond and this bond has now evolved into a profound spiritual space that encourages spiritual growth, understanding and reuniting with universal truths that never truly go anywhere but somehow elude our understanding as a result of our human tendency to believe in illusions that ultimately cause us pain, fear, and cause us to devolve as human beings.
Alicia has since become an uplifting spiritual mentor to me and is still able to impart wisdom, information and perspectives that are not only uplifting, but genuinely allow for deep healing of old fears, insecurities, and negative tapes.
